She fumbled in the dark at the door handle and pulled it open to the glow of the daylight. She dashed towards the door as she heard the man getting up behind her.
It was at that moment she realized that she had forgotten about the gun. She turned to face the man as she heard the explosion form the barrel. As soon as she saw the puff of smoke she felt the piercing of the round hit her square in the chest. As she fell back flat on her back the room around her faded into blackness.
Before the clerk could shoot her dead she reached out from the darkness and swung the door hitting the man and knocking him off balance. The gun went off and the single shot whizzed by her ear. She swung her fist as hard as she could in the direction she last saw the man and connected with what felt like the side of his ear. it was a solid hit and it hurt her hand tremendously. She heard the man collapse to the floor and knew she connected well.
As the darkness escaped the room through a single crack of light she realized she had an advantage for a limited amount of time. With her eyes adjusted to the light she maneuvered as best as she could to get in between the door and the man who was now laying on the floor. She kicked at him and knocked him around as best as she could. The struggle continued within the darkness of the room and she felt his arm reach up and grab at her coat.
"You think you can get away that easily?" she heard him scream from the floor.
With one final kick she connected with the man's face and hear him yelp in pain as he chewed on her sole.
